Ever feel blocked, stuck, frustrated, angry, irritated, disappointed and unable to make a decision? You know those times where you have energy blocks so it feels as though no matter what you do it will be the wrong move? What is possible in this situation? Often times it feels like not much, however, learning how to sit with the dark times, the blocks, the discomfort of tricky processes is a useful practise. If one constantly avoids, runs away from or just ploughs on making decisions regardless the longer term consequences can be far worse than staying with the process, sitting in the dark, blocked, possibly fearful or feeling quite alone for a period of time. One thing we know is that whether things are great or grim nothing stays the same. Circumstances and perceptions change given time, what feels unbearable in this moment will seem like a dim and distant memory in a month or two.
Compassion & Kindness
Developing self-compassion, practising kindness towards yourself and being curious about feelings, circumstances and life in general can make it easier to just be in the dark, stuck, observing the feelings without engaging in that spiral of catastrophic thinking. Allow your emotions to be as they are, talk about it with other people, don’t seek quick fixes, use the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of yourself and others.
So next time you feel stuck be your own best friend, grant yourself permission to be stuck, acknowledge that nothing lasts forever and be gentle, just the same way when things are great, enjoy the experience, savour every moment and be mindful that this also will not stay the same. Nurture yourself, feel the emotions, take hot baths, go for long walks, get enough sleep, eat good food and be gentle. Life is messy, things happen beyond our control, feelings change, relationships shift, end and start, just notice, accept and love your life as it is, don’t wish it away be in the moment, be curious and kind.
